Windows 7: Core settings for normal home network speed re transferring files

Now that I ahve made some progress in getting accesss to the other machines on my home netwrok, I tired to copy some files over.

While I had zero issue with Vista ( using back up software, file sync software or window explorerr) it would appear Windows 7 has not been as kind to me.

Where do I even start?

Check out the transfer rate on the attached.

This is Win 7 to XP across a WIRED home network.

EDIT

I see that Super slow network transfer speeds with Windows7 is a common problem... many suggestions posted here... still looking for one that actaully works.
