Windows 7: Netbook Won't Recognize Wireless Networks, Just Shows Red 'X'

So I've searched all over the internet for answers and asked some of my computer-savvy friends, but no one seems to know.

Here is the problem (I'll try to give as much info as I can, and hopefully someone out there can help me):

Basically, my netbook doesn't recognize any networks despite the fact that my other netbook, laptop and iMac all do recognize the networks in the area and connect to my network without a problem. I have already tried resetting the router and all that kind of stuff.

In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, where the network strength icon is, there is just a red 'X' signifying that there are no available networks. Sometimes, upon restarting the computer, it does recognize that there are networks (strength icon has the gold dot in the middle), but when I try to join my network, it says that it is unable to. Then the weird stuff happens:

After I try to log onto a network and it tells me that it is unable to, the network completely disappears from the list of available ones (I'm in an office building where my machine picks up several networks). Then, ultimately, it reverts back to the red 'X' and I can't do anything.

Anyone have ANY idea what is going on?

Things that you may try:

Remove all network profiles stored, re-add your own SSID (wireless network) with the correct encryption.
Wireless Network - Remove

Download the Atheros network adapter AR5B95the most recent driver from Atheros site.

No network profiles stored. How do I add my SSID? And I have also downloaded the latest drivers, but still no luck
