Mapped drive & USB drive letter conflict

I just built a new computer for work. Our server is mapped as letter “F” and this works unless I leave a USB card reader plugged in when I shut it down. On boot up one of the drives on the card reader gets assigned “F” and the mapped drive doesn’t work. I then have to remove the card reader and re-boot. I would prefer to leave the card reader plugged in. is there a way to lock or reserve the drive letters on one or the other to prevent the conflict? I solved this on my previous machine (XP pro) here but can’t remember how.

Thanks

Thanks, I’ll give that a try when I have a free couple minutes. I did try setting the drive letters via disk manager and 3 of the 4 on the card reader stayed as I set them but it always manages to change at least one to “F”.

Just change the drive letter of the card reader in Disk Management. I have a card reader in my work tower that grabs four letters. All I had to do was change them to M, N, O, and P, and my mapped server drivers wouldn't conflict with them anymore.

That’s what I did. On boot up it changes at least one of the drives in the card reader to the same as the mapped drive. Leaves others I set to what I set them at.

That's the issue then...why your letter designations aren't sticking.
