UltraVNC question - almost there

Background
Been using UltraVNC for a long time. Currently on 1.0.9.6.1 (64bit) I have many home machines- two on Windows 7 64BIT ; the balalance on XP. All on the same home network I recently rebuilt Win 7 #2, so I suspect I have something not quite right there.

Issue
  • From Win 7 # 1, I can control all the XP's, but I cant connect to Win 7 #2 (recently rebuilt)
  • From Win 7 # 2 (recently rebuilt), I can control all the XP's, but I cant connect to Win 7 #1
Steps to Date
  • I verified all the basic network stuff
  • All PC's can see all other PC's.
  • I reintalled, UltraVNC on both Win 7 machines, and I see it the install makes all the required firewall exceptions.
Questions
What Win 7 settings should I be looking to change?

Have you turned off all firewalls on Windows 7 #2?

I could do that as a test , but that would not be my normal setup.

I will check the firewall exceptions

I will also check for exceptions in the anti vrius I am using ( Avast 6.0)

BUT....I thought the UltraVNC install makes the appropriate execptions when it installs...

It might be Windows firewall, but in any case you should triple-check that. I certainly had to adjust Comodo firewall to get UVNC to work.

I have found that many new antivirus products that include a firewall tend to block network access on a peer-to-peer network, and Windows 7's built in firewall can as well. Since this network contains a router, and since most routers contain a hw based (superior) firewall, turn em off! My latest upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2012 did just that. I have a Windows 7 box that shares all my media with the network and tv's. Samsung allshare is a dream! NIS 2012 disabled all network access to any shares. Once I disabled the NIS firewall, I had access to the shares again!

No antiivirus software is installed on Win 7 # 2 .
I have turned Windows Firewall OFF for Win 7 # 2 .
I have turned Windows Firewall OFF for Win 7 # 1 .
Still no change per my orginal post.

And yet I can access my XP machines no problem.
Everything is going through the same router.
And I can access all the disk drives off to/from any machine

What can I try next??

Do you have something shared on each PC with the group everyone? Or?

Yes, for all my shares, I grant permissions to EVERYONE.

Took a look at advanced setting sfor Windows Firewall.

On WIN 7 # 2 I saw 4 entries ( for viewer-tcp, viewe-udp, server-tcp, server-udp), but only saw 2 settings (viewer only) on WIN 7 #1.

So I renstalled UltraVNC on Win 7 # 1. Still two setttings.

I manually added the other two, and rebooted.

No change.

Rather than creating exceptions for Windows firewall... just disable it totally and test!
