    LM-001 wifi dongle

    Hi

Just installed 7 on an ancient IBM R31 laptop which barely ran XP and it works great! No DVD drive so I installed via a flash drive on a USB 1 port(!).

Problem is that I cannot get on the internet because I can't get my LM-001 wifi dongle to work. Tried XP and vista drivers, no errors but just no network available.

    Any ideas?

Hello spoons, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums!

In this thread, I discuss using a wired USB adapter (really cheap) to connect an old laptop to the Internet. Adapters are due any day now and am waiting to test the idea.

Will Windows 7 Run on a Pentium 3?

True. Many have been appreciative when I replied to them.

Interesting article, thanks. No wired network available (2 floors away in private house) so I need wi-fi. My other laptop (XP) is fine so I'm not without PC. Incidentally, I installed Windows 7 from a pen drive by making it bootable, found some instructions on the net and it worked fine. Neat trick if you don't have a DVD drive.

spoons; You should check out the tutorial section here at Windows Seven Forums:

    Windows 7 - Tutorial Index

There is an awesome amount of helpful info there!

We will have to see if we can find a compatible USB wifi. Your router will need to support WAP-PSK (sometimes refered to as WAP Personal), or even better WAP2 -PSK.

Edit: Your LM001 is not showing up in the Vista compatibility list but you might be able to find something usable here?

Windows Vista Compatibility Center Search Results - USB Adapter
