    Cant share files

I have 1 Desktop, 1 Laptop and 1 tablet all running Windows 7 Home Premium and all 3 are wireless. I created a Homegroup on one of the computers. When I went to one of the other computer it would not let me join a workgroup it would only let me create one. So I decided to Map Network Drives. I was able to map all the folders I wanted to share from the desktop to the laptop but when I tried to map drives to the laptop it would keep asking me for a password but the laptop does not have a password. So I tried to map the drives on the tablet but it would not see it. So after just playing around (can’t remember at this time what I did since I did many different things) I was able to get everything mapped with all 3 computers. But then I would go back to one of them and the mapped drives would not work so I would try to remap them and I could not see the other computer. It would work on and off. One minute I could access the files then the next I could not. Does it sound like my router is going bad? But the weird thing if I will lose my lan network (not being able to see other computers) but all computers can still access the internet. Also I disconnect all mapped drives but some won’t let me because it states that the network is not found. How can I remove those drives?

Sorry for such a long post and I hope it makes sense so someone can help.

    Thanks,
    Dennis

    Hello,

See the following on how to connect and disconnect mapped drives:
How to connect and disconnect a network drive in Windows XP

Do you have passwords on all the PCs? Windows may ask you for a password but if it doesnt have one then it will deny access.

P.S I know the link says Windows XP but it should still work for Windows 7/Vista etc. You may have to run cmd as adminstrator.

Win 7 is very picky about sharing ... I've found that I have to have passwords set on all computers trying to share or it just wont work correctly... My recommendation would be to create passwords on all the computers and try again, that should clear it up...

I even tryed putting passwords on and still nothing. The one computer that was asking for a password that did not have one on it, i put a password on it then it would just say invalid password/username

Yes, put the same username and password on all the PC's. Then it shouldnt even prompt you for a password.

all 3 pc's have different user names on them and they do not want passwords used. I have almost the same setup at my house and it works fine.
