Limited connectivity, DHCP Client not starting

    Hi.
I used to be able to connect to the internet before with no problems. 2 wks ago, the Wireless connection started showing "LIMITED CONNECTIVITY", though, it can see all the wifi networks available in the area. Other computers and wifi enabled devices can all connect easily to the same network. I've tried the following solutions(from the forums) already:
    -re-installing drivers, disabling-enabling network adapters
-made sure the passwords are correct
    -disabling firewalls
    -turning on-off (5mins) the router +PC
    -removing and reloading the network
-scanned software/hardware for problems thru built in "vaio care"
(indicated that everything is running normally)

I also tried to run the Network Diagnostics but this error msg always appear= "The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running."- even if i run it as an administrator..

Checked the Local Services and found out that DHCP Client is not running- Tried starting it several times but it won't start and this error msg always appear "Windows could not start the DHCP CLient service on local Comp. Error 5: Access is denied."

I'd appreciate any help/assistance/idea from anyone. Been trying to sort this one out for 4 days now, and still found no solution. Thanks for taking time in reading this. :)

    Welcome to SF,

Have tried a System Restore? Restore it to a point where you were able to wireless connect.
    System Restore

Verify that all your Network Services are Started from Control Panel and its Dependencies.
Click on start and type services.msc press enter.
    • COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
    • Computer Browser
    • DHCP Client
    • DNS Client
    • Network Connections
    • Network Location Awareness
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    • Server
    • TCP/IP Netbios helper
    • WLAN AutoConfig
    • Workstation

    Thanks for replying.. =)

I've tried restoring several times but still the problem persist.

I was able to start all of the services above except for "DHCP Client".
This msg always appears: "Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on this comp, Error 5: Access is denied."

Any idea why? Honestly, I don't have extensive knowledge on PCs.....I just kept trying
All the possible solutions posted here. I've tried turning off firewalls as well..

Have you checked the dependencies tab also?
You might want to do sfc /scannow:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Yes, I have checked the dependencies and they are all started.
Ran the scannow several times as well and rebooted the machine after each scan. It says that it finds no error.
Still same limited connectivity. Dhcp Client still won't start in the services.

That's a good catch 2xg! On my system, the DHCP client lists three system drivers as dependencies. They are:

    • Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock
    • NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver (itself dependent on TCP/IP Protocol Driver)
    • Network Store Interface Service (itself dependent on NSI Proxy Service Driver)

With the exception of Network Store Interface Service, which as the name says is another service, all of these drivers are found in Device Manager under Non-Plug and Play Drivers. (You need to enable hidden devices to see these entries.)

So it's time to see if one of these drivers, or the service, are either disabled or missing.

I've only disabled the DHCP SERVER in the router & gave manual address' s in NIC properties
with correct subnet mask. default getway & DNS should have your router address.
    that solved the problem

    Thanks for letting us know.
Actually, you don't have to disable the DHCP Server in your router, you may always assign Manual or Static IP in your LAN or WLAN setting, just an FYI....

The manual address's have been before.
Only when i disabled dhcp server, the "limited or no connectivity" disapeared
