Window 7 freezing or dropping router connection.

    Hello everyone,

I have been struggling with my pc dropping internet connection and not seeing the router as well as it freezing at random times, from 5mins use to several hours, but lately its alot more. Its a cyberpower system machine I bought in oct 2008, its had ALOT of use. See below for system specs below please if needed.

It will freeze at all sorts of times, does not matter which application I have open. I have to hard reboot. It will also freeze on shutdown sometimes. I get all sorts of errors on connection loss, it will say the default gatway not available, it will ask me to reset my router too. It resets Local Area Connection adapter all the time, when I try to resolve the issue. It also says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration, and resets all my settings back to Obtain IP addresses automatically, as well as Obtain DNS server address automatically in the Internet Protocol Version 4 settings. If I put all the IP addresses and default gateway stuff back in without resetting the router, it then says Troubleshooting couldn't find the problem. Resetting the router usually does work. But not always, sometimes I need a restart. It Sometimes it works if I restart, sometimes it still won't see the router. *pulls hair out*
I'm totally at my wits end now with this, I have no idea what's going on and I'm not computer savy at all, I'm just trying to get through this step at a time, to try and figure out what is doing this. I really need some more help please. I would send machine back to cyberpower but they are halfway across the country.

    WHAT's BEEN TRIED:
I tried putting the IP address in as static, put in the subnet mask, and default gateway.
I use the Preffered DNS server IP in there as it helps use network gaming and platforms better like SecondLife.
I've tested the router network with same cable I use on another laptop so the cable is fine.
    Changed ASDL filters twice.
    Bought new router.
    I've replaced my harddrive.
I've tried two different driver versions for my network card which is a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
    I've resit my memory.
Tried restoring system to a few days before it started freezing again.
I've reinstalled windows a few times now, usually it works for a while (week or two) after a fresh new install.
Its a fresh new windows 7 I bought as the machine came with vista.
I've manually tried to put in all the drivers I need myself as I don't have the disk that came with my machine. (I have no idea if I've done that right)
Sent it in for a service clean and checkup.
Turned off the option that windows shuts my network driver down to save on power.

Thank you very much and all help welcome.
    Best
    Cara

1st off avg is a heavy antivirus, I highly recommend toasting it. Don't remove it without the proper tool.
If you really don't want too, you do not have to remove it. But an even better Antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials, you should try it out.

After that is done, Malwarebytes is an antimaleware software that is perfectly able to run side-by-side with Microsoft Security Essentials. You should update both and then full scan with both, one after the other. May take an hour or more depending on how much you have on your computer. Good news about malwarebytes is it doesn't need to run automatically, only manually if ever you feel it should be run (to clean out your system of malware the safe way).

Run windows update. DO install all important updates, and even optional updates that help your system (things that fix problems but aren't required, such as compatability updates).

I can help you further provided you follow some of the things in my signature at the bottom, especially the part where you "Fill out your system specs (this tool may help you out a great deal)."

Soon I will be having you update drivers and then we will go from there

Try this for now: Optimize Windows 7. That may help somewhat with the freezing. Do you know what started the freezing happening? There could be something wrong with your computer itself (hardware), so we'll see about that if we can. It only freezes, it has no BSOD right?

Do this one if you can: run command prompt as an administrator and run this command:
    SFC /scannow

Hopefully your computer doesn't freeze too much, especially during this testing.

This looks like a hard problem to solve, so I will help you, but just know the absolute easiest method is probably going to be a complete reinstall.

you might try loading safe mode with networking (F8 i think during bootup) and downloading/installing these items to try and keep the computer from crashing. Some of these items cannot be installed or completed in safe mode so just be aware, but it may be worth it for the ones that can, depending on how often you crash.
