Laptop taking a long time to connect to network share, if at all.

For some reason my laptop takes forever to connect to a shared drive on my desktop on my home network. I've tried connecting to it by mapping the drive and through windows explorer and same thing. Sometimes it won't even connect at all. I don't have this issue with other computers on the network. And when I say a long time I am meaning like 5 minutes or more. At first it was maybe only 1-2 minutes but it is getting worse. My mouse icon has had the spinning ring around it trying to connect the whole time I have been writing this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Both computers are Win 7 pro x64 with sp1. Desktop is wired directly to the router and laptop has excellent signal strength. Both have DHCP reservations set in the router. The way I usually connect is by starting a run box and typing \\[desktop pc name]\[share] then it just spins for a while.

    Hello,

From your laptop's Device Manager, locate the network adapter in question, right click on it, choose Advanced Tab, find link Speed and Duplex. Change the Auto Detect to Auto Negotiate 1000 or 100mbps. See if it helps.

Firewall or Security Software might be also interfering.

Ok I checked device manager for my wireless NIC and did not have any of those options in advanced tab. Also checked the windows firewall and made sure any connections between my laptop and desktops internal ip's are completly unrestricted. Even tried turning off the firewall all together. Still the same thing. Anything else I can check?

Using AV for avast. Checked settings in there and all seemed ok.

Can you please provide an ipconfig /all output of the working and the problematic computer, let's compare and review them?
Click on Start => in run or search box type cmd, press enter. From the command prompt (black screen), Copy and Paste these ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt . Please attach the .txt file to be found in your Local Disk 'C' on your next post.

Thanks for the output, both looks good. However, see if there's a recent driver for your Intel driver, then update it. Intel® Driver Update Utility

Is your Avast the Free AV or Security Software? Try disabling it for now, try connecting the shared folder and see if it helps.

I just tried disabling windows firewall and avast on both machines.

Here's whats strange. Now I cannot access it at all by going to \\Alex-Desktop-PC. However when I go to \\192.168.0.110 (ip of desktop) it connects almost right away and brings up all my shared folders.

Going from the Desktop to a shared folder on the laptop is working fine though.

I will try updating the driver like you said then let you know.

There were updates for the chipset and network on both computers. I installed both of them and tried it again.

It would still connect by ip, but going by computer name still had same problems. That finally just let to me renaming the desktop computer.

Now it works fine! I'm not sure why that mattered but it did. I recently reinstalled the OS on the desktop cause I had to replace the SSD (under warranty thankfully) so when I did I just named it the same as it was. I don't know how it would, but maybe that was part of the problem.
