Windows 7: Internet Connection issues

I bought a new Dell Inspiron one. I have notice if my computer goes into sleep mode my internet connection is dropped it say it’s connected but it’s not. I have to try and connect many times before it will connect. I have tried it wireless connection and hardwired connection. I call dell tech and they changed the power management settings to this
Dim display-never
Turn off display-never
Put computer to sleep-never
This will keep me connected to the internet but my computer is always on.
Dell Tech say there is an issue with windows 7 that if your computer has 4g of memory are more that you will have this problem. I think it’s something else. Any help would be grateful. Thanks

Likely it has something to do with the Dell hardware that causes this issue. My guess is if they don't know how to fix one of their own computers (or they know that it can't be fixed), then I am not sure if someone else would.

Generally speaking, sleep mode and connecting to the internet isn't effected by the amount of RAM one has (to my knowledge). But I do not know if that is true for Dell computers or select Dell computers. I myself own a computer with 12GB RAM and have no problems. I used to own another computer with Vista, and I managed to have sleep mode working perfectly, but on certain installs, the internet wouldn't work after a wake from sleep mode unless I restarted or disabled/re-enabled the wireless network device. I am having the same issues. Some suggestions it was my server, but when disabling sleep entirely, no issues at all with the dropped connection.

Currently, ensuring that all drivers are updated (suspect all are current, but for the record confirming that . . . ), then . . . . . ?? Really wanted to take advantage of an OS that would perform the 'sleep' mode to perfection, but as of now, that isn't happening to me.

Go into the Advanced and Power Management tabs of your ethernet and WiFi Adapters in Device Manager.

Kill the "allow operating system to put device to sleep" option.

Optimise the parametres under Advanced.

Everything from Tx/Rx optimisation to killing "Green Ethernet" and so on and so forth.

Seldom have I ever seen an adapter which installs itself with optimal settings, they all seem to assume crappy fail-safe type settings when you can get a huge performance gain by tweaking the options that they offer...
