Windows 7: Laptop won't reconnect after sleep if wired Win7 computer is on

This is weird, but if my Win 7 computer is on and connected to the router (wired), then neither my Toshiba laptop (also running Win 7) nor an iPod will reconnect after sleep.



After reading through this forum, I tried disabling the Homegroup on both Win 7 computers, but it didn't help. Even tried disabling the IPv6 on the network adapters.

I've also made sure power remains on to the wireless adapter even when computer is asleep. And updated all my drivers, etc.

The only thing that helps is turning off the wired Win 7 computer. Obviously not a permanent solution!

Help appreciated.

The laptop is also showing a Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #3. Could this have anything to do with the problem?

Unfortunately this is an issue shared by many, as always try a BIOS update first and let us know if that clears up your problem!

Alas, the BIOS is already updated to the most current version.

Firmware on the router is also updated.

FYI, router is a Netgear WGT624v3, 802.11g.

What NIC is in the computer causing the problems? Is there any type of security software installed on it? What applications are installed, and do you do any torrent stuff? Have you tried creating a new user on the problem computer, then tried resuming from sleep on the laptop to see if it still has issues?

It's a Lenovo K330B:

• Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
• Avast antivirus, Comodo firewall, WinPatrol, SuperAntiSpyware
• no torrent software, Firefox, Thunderbird, Adobe CS3, OpenOffice, etc. (nothing unusual I can think of)

Well, maybe it did help. Still testing.

Avast antivirus, Comodo firewall, WinPatrol, SuperAntiSpyware ???

New user didn't work.

The security products each do different things; I don't like using an all-encompassing product. I've never had any problems using these together. The anti-spyware runs only when I tell it to--and spyware is a HUGE problem these days. WinPatrol warns me of changes to my startup programs--which, alas, happen all too often if not monitored.

I can disable these temporarily if you think they could be a source of the problem.

Yes, I would suggest disabling them all, retesting and then report back.

If you notice a difference between the previous tests and with all security apps disabled, then re-enable each... one @ a time to find the offender!
