WLAN network connection asks for user and password ???

Hi,

I've setup my father's notebook (Win 7 32Bit) to connect via WLAN to the router. Another notebook is already running on that router (did not tried it parallel at the same time yet).

I've setup SSID (I've made it visible at the router for the initial connection), WPA2 & TKIP incl. password. Router allows additional WLAN devices, IP/DNS etc. should be set by the router.

Automatic connection does not connect to the router. Manual connection seems to work, but shortly after "connecting" I'll get a message to input user and password. I have not seen such a screen in conjunction with WLAN connection before (and I've set-up several devices at different routers). I've tried user and password of the user logged into windows, but this did not work.

Does anyone have an idea ? I've searched the web, but couldn't find a similar situation from anyone else.

I am having a similar problem with a connection between a PC (windows 7) and laptop (windows XP) it asks for user name and password and I do not remember setting up this process. the PC is connected to two other PC with XP and a laptop (MAC) Hope someone can help with this.

@Sesco,

I assume we have two different issues. Yours is related to a connection through the network to other PCs/Laptops. You need to have user including password setup on the machines to get the connection. Win 7 does not allow "empty" passwords. Do you have setup a password on Win XP machine ? BTW, do the other connections work properly ?

I found the solution: I just needed to reset the router security settings. I've tried it without any encryption, which worked fine. Afterwards I changed settings back to original WPA2 & key (same key as before) and this worked also.

I don't what prohibited the connection before, but now it is working fine.
