Sharing Folder in Programme Files(x86) [SOLVED]

I cannot today share a folder which was shared last week.

No matter what I do with Sharing and Permissions I can no longer access it from another machine on my network.

It's shared to Everyone with full access and has a share name, yet trying to access it gives 'Access denied'.

My UAC is one notch down from the maximum.

I cannot use the search function in this forum as it won't let me input a search term.

    Hello,

Can you confirm that the 'everyone' account has full permissions in the folders security tab and the permissions tab within advanced sharing?

Can you access the folder from the local PC ok? Have you changed your anti-virus or anything?

It has now, but it won't let me set permissions for it in the Security tab. Access denied and quotes the filename of one of the files in the directory (which is not the file I was trying to change).

I deleted the offending file, which was only a backup version, and suddenly the folder is shared ! That said, in the right-click properties of the folder [Shared] is greyed out.

Yes, or at least I can now.

Have you changed your anti-virus or anything?

Changed from Windows Firewall to Zone Alarm day before yesterday. The application in question here is not come to ZA's notice as it isn't its lists.

    Hello,

Can you confirm if this is resolved?

If the shared tab is greyed out you may not be the owner of the folder or you may not be an administrator.

In a manner of speaking. The data file I was trying to update sometimes appears in the application folder and sometimes in a mile-long directory name like \Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Virtual....Programme Files\...

That folder isn't access denied and changing the data file there works.

If the shared tab is greyed out you may not be the owner of the folder or you may not be an administrator.

I activated the right-click Take Ownership option, so I must have ownership. It let me delete a backup file in the forbidden directory, but it won't share that directory on the network.

I am Admin and sole user.

So I'll mark it [SOLVED] if I can find out how.

Many thanks for your thoughts on this matter.
