Cannot access Guest accounts on router

    Hi all,
new forum user... searched but cannot find this.

I have 2 laptops - both run Win7 x64. Different brands (Asus G73 and Alienware M11x) with different network cards. I have found that neither will access the guest accounts on 3 different routers, all different locations and different brands. Tried latest versions of both IE and Firefox... no go. The tab shows the page is starting to load, where you enter the guest passwords, but the page never loads. It just times out.

I can get into the main admin accounts just fine, but ever the gust accounts. I show a connection via the network icon in the taskbar....then the yellow exclamation shows up. I get the popup that states 'More information is needed to log on - click here to open your browser'. But when I click on that, the browser opens but the page never does. I've set the default browser to both IE and FF... tried opening them via the click and via start button... both 32 and 64 versions... nothing.

Ideas? Is this a Win7 x64 thing, as that seems to be the only constant between the two machines...?

Welcome to SevenForums SwissyJim. Tell us about your router, model, how is your home network set up as to sharing files, password or no, Homegroup?...

well, I can only give one router model as the others are either 3500 miles away, a hotel, and my work (where I'll be back in a week). I can access none of them if I try the 'Guest' wireless account... only the main or admin account that allows full access on the network. Never got on to the hotel guest access since I could not get the admin account access.

My home router is a Belkin Play N600. No homegroup, just shared drives on the computers. If I am on the admin account, I can access everything just fine - read, move, copy and delete across my network.

My issue is I cannot access any Guest access accounts on the wireless routers. With either of my laptops. I should note that anyone that tries the same Guest account with a 32bit version of Win7 has no problems at all, so I know they are working and passwords are correct. The login page via web browser never loads for me. The tab for the session shows the name of the login page, but always times out. I've tried IE 9.03, Firefox 8.0 and Firefox Nightlies. The difference between my laptops and those that CAN access the guest accounts is simply that they are using 32bit and I am 64bit Win7.

It's not a huge issue, since the router I need to access, I have admin account access on. But I'm just trying to figure this out in case I need it down the road. The hotel non-access was no problem... just played games on my M11x instead of cruising the web.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have a friend who runs a guest house. Many of her guests complain of symptoms similar to those you describe when trying to access the guest account on her Belkin router. No such problems occur on the main ssid. Did you manage to confirm that this was a Win 7 64bit issue? Did you ever discover any workarounds?
