Windows 7: home group locked out

i recently encountered a problem with my home group settings on my main
desktop computer . what happen was i i took my notebook and reinstalled
the OS .

after all that i went to try to rejoin the home group ( with the notebook) and the desktop would not let me veiw or print the password also it will not let
create a new password for the home group and it wont let me
leave the home group .

i can see the shared folders on the network but they
give a ( can not view folders no permission ) .

any advice on how to restart a home group and not being locked out ?

or how to view a pass word other than home group settings ?
