Unable to share folders on ext hard drive

    Hi all,

I'm trying to stream my music/videos to my xbox via my network, all my files are stored on an external usb hard drive, when I try to share these folders an error box appears saying "Your library couldn't be shared" and "The file sharing wizard can't share system folders." Can anyone help me share these folders over the network please?

    Thanks

    Matt

If they are on anexternal disk (not USB stick), try to INCLUDE them into e.g. the Music and Video libraries (right click on the folders and you will see). Maybe that works. Example:

Hi whs, thanks for the reply. I have done this and the same message still shows up. Any ideas?

Hi Matt, try the media streaming option. I have never used that, but it sounds like something that might get you somewhere.

    Hello Matt,

    Did you setup a Workgroup?

Try accessing the shared Ext HDD this way.
Click on Start and type \\ComputerName\SharedExtHDD press enter. The Computer Name can also be replaced by an IP Address. You may try both.
It will be better if its a Network Attached Storage (NAS) Device though, just plug it in by using a Network Cable to the Router's LAN Port or a Network Switch and the shared files will be accesible quickly.
