I am trying to use a new Windows 7 Pro 64 bit laptop on my home network. Here is what I have
HP 2015d connected via USB to Windows XP Pro
I installed the printer no problem on a remote HP laptop also running Windows XP
On the new laptop running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, the follwing occurs
I can find the 2015d on the host computer during the Windows 7 "add printer" window. The dialog box comes up saying it is searching for the
driver using Windows update and then a dialog box comes up saying "Windows can't find a driver for the 2015d on the network". To locate one manually click OK"
So far I have tried
1. Download the Windows 7 64x driver from HP on the Win 7 laptop as well as the XP driver. I have unzipped these files and have them stored in a folder on the 7 laptop. Browsing these files with the 7 install program brings up the following
" The file *.INF' is needed.
There is no .INF file found in any of the download packages and a search of the host computer comes up with nothing. There is a folder C:Windows/INF however XP won't allow this to be shared.
2. As a hack work-around, I tried installing the 2015d printer via USB to the Win 7 laptop and it installed immediately and printed. I re-installed it to the XP computer but can't print because the Windows 7 computer thinks it is then off-line.
I also checked the network settings on the 7 computer and it is checked allow printer sharing, etc,
Anyone have a solution for this? What exacty is the *.INF file that Windows 7 is looking for?
