I live in a hotel and do not want other hotel computers to see my computer. I have Ultimate OS and set up the network as public. In Network and Sharing center, I turned off network discovery and turned off file and printer sharing. Public folder sharing is off. These are off in Public and Home or Work profiles. When my computer boots up, the file and printer sharing are enabled in both profiles even thru network discovery is off. If the file and printer sharing is enabled, I see other computers on the hotel network. Why does the OS enable the file and printer sharing automatically? I do not have homegroup enabled. In the system control panel, I have remote assistance and Remote Desktop disabled. In services, Remote Remote Registry and Routing/Remote Access are disabled. Remote Access Auto connection manager, remote connection manager, remote desktop config, remote desktop services and remote services usermode port redirection are set at manual. Only the Remote procedure call (RPC) are set at automatic. My firewall is ZoneAlarm extreme security version. In the windows firewall control panel, it says that home or work(private) networks not connected and Public networks is connected. Why is windows firewall state enabled? Since I am using ZoneAlarm suite, should I turn off windows firewall completely?
