    Hi,

I have a computer called a "Titan Krypt" AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.00GHz Quad Core DDR3 System bought from Overclockers just over a year ago. I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium which I just reinstalled so its the only thing on the machine. I was using a wireless dongle by CISCO LINKSYS (WUSB100 ver.2) and everything was fine. Then I moved house, although I could see the wireless network I could never really connect and if I could only for a short while and really slow. I have since moved house twice more and been through several ISP and routers. The CPU seems to connect to the internet intermittently as in for 10 secs every minute or two. Several other computers in the house I have lived in can connect with no problems. I have tried to update drivers and install AVG (payed version). None of this helped so I bought a new wireless dongle by NETGEAR (WNDA3100) and for a short time everything worked perfectly. Then the old problems started to occur. I used to get error messages from diagnostics about DNS issues. Now I only get either/both network cable is damaged or unplugged and cannot find default gateway. Sometimes it just comes up with cannot connect. My speed varies from nothing up to about 20 mbps. I have good signal strength. I have taken the sides off the CPU and checked all wires are secured properly. There does not appear to be any physical damage (although I do not know precisely where to look). If anyone could give me some advice on how to fix this problem i really would be so grateful! Thank you!

*All updates for windows have been installed
*When I load my system I get a message saying SATA was found running in something mode do you want to change it to AHCI (I don't know what this means or if it would make a difference.
    * The problem occurred after a move of house but the issue is definitely with my CPU

You tell us the dongle but not the router, are you connecting 2.4 Ghz and on what channel, is the router placed close to a cordless phone base (10ft) or on an outside wall, next to a window...

Hi! Its a Sky Sagem F@ST2504 Router. But I'd like to point out that I have had the same trouble with 4 routers whilst at the same time several other users on each have been fine. That is channel 1 but i also connect to the one down stairs sometimes and that is channel 6. The router is not near an outside wall, window or any electrical device. Sorry I'm not entirely sure how to check the 2.4 Ghz.

Also I have the most up to date drivers for graphics card and network adaptors.

Someone else asked me for this information if it helps:

Have a look at this Netgear support site.

If I was a betting man, I'd say there are compatibility issues between your USB adapter and Windows 7.

Netgear hardware has lousy (or at best untimely!) driver support, and quite honestly I'd prefer to be using a user configurable PCiE 1x slot with a WiFi adapter planted in it (with decent antennae) than a USB dongle as a WiFi card is more reliable, more configurable, and doesn't depend on the pointless use of the USB interface...

Not all routers, in fact very few, operate in the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands simultaneously. Not that this should necessarily make a difference to you unless there's constant heavy, and varying, network traffic - or you're in an intensively WiFi congested location.

OK so I forgot to mention when the internet cuts out and I try to reconnect sometimes there is no signal from the routers other times there is full signal. Also I got a new error message today (After it had been working fine all day):

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device back on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or access point that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

I don't know if that sheds any more light on things? Is it likely/possible that I have a hardware problem on the motherboard or something? Baring in mind multiple wireless dongles and routers have been used. The above report says that my password was wrong, however this simply is not the case. Can anyone out the help/possible fix by remote access for me? Crate of beer for you if you can!

In response to the above. I have several wirelss USB dongles and none work so I doubt the issue is there. There is no problem specifically when the traffic is high i.e. weekends although it does seem a little worse at these times. The main thing that is concerning is that it used to work but stopped working after I originally moved house (have moved several more time since then)

Are you using Windows to manage your wireless connections or the app that the dongle manufacturer bundles with the drivers? A lot of times when you run the driver installer package it also installs a WIFI connection app that the manufacturer wants you to use instead of the built in windows one. Its been my experience that most of them don't work very well and cause more problems than they cure. Also if you don't uninstall them and switch brands you end up with more problems. Here is a link to a nice little free app that will show you what kind of signal strength you're getting and allot of other useful info like what other networks might be interfering with yours.
