Network is not connecting to internet, stuck on "identifying" & public

    Hi guys!
I'm new to this forums so please be patient with me. I recently got rid of a virus... but i think it did some damage to the computer. I know that it deleted some registry files for firewall (but I fixed that, following some other advice from other threads on here).... but the next issue I have is that I cant get on the internet and the network status keeps saying "identifying"

I do not want to clean install because I have a lot of things on this computer and re-installing Win 7 is my *LAST* resort.

I have a Verzion DSL Westell 327W modem, that I have had for more than 4 years now. It is still working and all my laptops work on wireless just fine. I also tried to see if it is the cable by connecting it to one of my laptops and using the connection on LAN and it is just fine too. So it is not the cable. However, when I plug it into my desktop (HP w2007), it is continually searching for the network and keeps saying "identifying." There is no connection and no internet.

    I have tried:
uninstalling and re-installing the network adapter driver
    did a SFC /scannow repair
unplugged the modem and shut down the computer to reset them
checked the properties for the local area connections to make sure they are on auto
    disabling and enabling the connection
diagnosing the issue (troubleshoot couldnt ID the problem)

I don't know what else to do. The modem is fine and I never had a problem with this desktop until the virus. I think it damaged some setting or something so that the network adapter doesnt recognize the internet.

Thanks in advance for your help!!! I really appreciate it.

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like:
And I also included my ipconfig.... idk if that's important or not...

    Welcome to Seven Forums,

Your computer might still be infected if it's stuck on Identifying.

Try running Free SuperAntiSpyware, see if it helps.

Check all your Network Services as well, see if they are all on Started mode including their Dependencies, check the Dependency Tab for that.
Click on start and type services.msc press enter. On Dependency Tab, check the Dependecies make sure that they are also Started.

    • COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
    • Computer Browser
    • DHCP Client
    • DNS Client
    • Network Connections
    • Network Location Awareness
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    • Server
    • TCP/IP Netbios helper
    • WLAN AutoConfig (for Vista and Windows 7 only)

Hi!!! Thanks for replying! I'm sure I got the virus out, entirely... I did a lot of research on this and it seems like the virus deletes something vital for network identifying.

I did as you told me, but it didnt help. I haven't found a solution even after 3 days of searching. So I ended up clean installing the comp. It was my last resort but internet is more important... lol.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND INPUT!!! This forum seems super helpful and extremely friendly
