Netgear WG111v2 works WG111v3 doesn't
I have a NetGear DG834Gv4 modem/router that works well. On PC1 (WinXP) I have a NetGear Wireless USB Adapter WG111v2. When I install the software it's seamless and the WUA connects to the NETGEAR network.
When I install the same software and WUA on PC2 (WIN 7) the same result.
So last week I purchased another WUA this time a WG111v3. I've tried it on both PCs, uninstalled previous software and installed new, and while both recognise the NETGEAR network all that happens is that the message Connecting to NETGEAR is displayed and the Smart Wizard just keeps scanning but doesn't connect.
The network is not secure, the channel is 11(G) and the signal strength is 100%. Anti virus and firewalls all deactivated and the latest drivers and utilities used.
Just to compound this problem I also have a TP-Link TL-WN721N which does the same as the v3 on both PCs. It 'sees' the network, tries to connect but can't.
NetGear have offered to replace the WUA but that doesn't solve my problem. A quick and unsatisfactory solution is to buy a v2 off ebay and use that but I'd really like to know why this is happening.
This fault/error/problem would not seem to be OS related as I can get WUAs to work and to fail on both PCs. I'm just wondering whether it might have something to do with my modem/router.
Any suggestions at all would be welcome.
