Hello alexm,
If you have already have a Cable subscribed from your ISP, you've mentioned Belkin wireless router you will only need to get a Wireless Network Card for your desktop. Here's a variety of selections.
Hope this helps. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo Desktop/Samsung Laptop OS Win7 & Win8 64bit CPU Intel i5 Internet Speed Charter-20 Mbps Antivirus Avast Browser FF, IE9 and Chrome |

Why would he need a wireless card if he already has a wired connection to the router?
Also, what is meant by "Install Internet cable"? Is this to use Netflix or similar service or maybe a Roku box? If so the device will connect to the router wirelessly then access the desktop hard drive via it's existing wired connection. That will all be setup when you install the device. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Precision 370 OS Windows 7 Pro X64 CPU Intel Pentium 4 Dual LP 3.4Ghz Memory 4GB DDR PC2-5200 ECC Graphics Card NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400/4400 Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP 22" w2207 LCD Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Hard Drives 300GB Maxtor 6L300RD PATA

Wouldn;t the desktop need a wireless adapter to connect to other wireless goodies and gadgets?
Your title says xp wireless adapter, is one or more machine running Windows XP? | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

No, the other wireless devices connect to the router, not directly to the desktop. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Precision 370 OS Windows 7 Pro X64 CPU Intel Pentium 4 Dual LP 3.4Ghz Memory 4GB DDR PC2-5200 ECC Graphics Card NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400/4400 Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP 22" w2207 LCD Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Hard Drives 300GB Maxtor 6L300RD PATA

So as 2xg said the desktop would need a wireless adapter to allow wireless devices to communicate with it? The Wireless devices won't work throught the wire. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

They should be able to access the wired desktop through the router. This is how the Roku box I installed for my brother worked. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Precision 370 OS Windows 7 Pro X64 CPU Intel Pentium 4 Dual LP 3.4Ghz Memory 4GB DDR PC2-5200 ECC Graphics Card NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400/4400 Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP 22" w2207 LCD Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Hard Drives 300GB Maxtor 6L300RD PATA

Just to clarify and avoid any confusions, I have only added the Wi-Fi card so that OP can use the desktop just in case he wants the desktop to wireless connect to the router. Mind you, Title of the Thread is 'xp wireless adaptor' and also this ' what hardware will I need or method to accomplice this ???'
This is not also very clear. Now, we don't know he wants file sharing, perhaps ICS? Quote: I also have a desktop computer hardwired to the same router. I will need to connect wirelessly to the desktop hard drive. I think it's best to wait for the OP to clarify things out. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo Desktop/Samsung Laptop OS Win7 & Win8 64bit CPU Intel i5 Internet Speed Charter-20 Mbps Antivirus Avast Browser FF, IE9 and Chrome |
