Windows Can't Use Wireless Adaptor

[Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP-1]
[Duronic USB-2 Wireless 802.11N Adaptor]

Have installed dongle and driver according to manufacturer's instructions.

Everything appears to be in place and working, but Windows can't find a wireless network whose wireless router is less than a metre away and working well with a laptop downstairs.

Realtek wireless LAN icon in system tray - Available Networks tab - Searching, but nothing is found. Dongle's LED is flashing slowly.

Control Panel - Manually connect to a wireless network - 'An unexpected error occurred'. Not helpful.

Windows diagnostics suggests problem is driver - searches and finds driver - informs me the installed driver is up-to-date.

The dongle connects easily when installed on an XP 32-bit machine.

Wired network connection works perfectly.

=> It doesn't find any router even if it's very close to router?
you see wireless adapater in network centre->adapter settings?
Connect using wire works without problems?

  1. Do a clean boot http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html So without non-microsoft services and startup items.
  2. uninstall driver (without reboot)
  3. install driver
  4. working? if so try another clean boot and check if it's still working
  5. boot normally. still working?
Does it work now? Also after a normal reboot?

Will try that.

Later:

I did all of that without solving the problem.

Life's too short to mess about with this wireless stuff - in any case I have a wired connection. However:

Since doing the clean boot, and going back to normal boot, I can no longer access my local network. I can access the Internet and the other machines can access the Windows 7 machine, but the Win-7 one cannot access any other computers on the local net. I've tried everything, but can't get it back.

How do I get my network back?

Hi Cheemag,

You may do a System Restore and restore it to a point when everything was working fine, of course excluding the wireless issue.
System Restore - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows

I think that's disabled. I was planning to rely on an Easeus whole disc backup thing.

For your wireless concern if you still need assistance, can you pls post an ipconfig /all output by following this guide:
http://www.sevenforums.com/1238712-post1.html
Easier to do that at the command prompt. Ipconf.txt attached.

Have you tried connecting to a diff Wi Fi connections or Hotspots?
I've only the one router and one wireless adaptor.

An update will be appreciated.
I feel a re-install coming on ... thinking about it anyway. There are other issues with this install (unrelated to networking).

download and use ubuntu livecd. Can ubuntu access the internet wireless?
Clean boot didn't solve the problem .... when you boot normally you should be back to where you started. Nothing has changed!

Er...no. Neither the dongle nor the driver software was in place.

I'm trying to get my network back with ethernet first rather than continuing with this wireless problem at this time.

I would have thought so, but clearly this isn't so in this case. In Network I now have Computer (1) AA and Media Devices (1) AA Jim. I've never seen the latter in Network before. AA is the machine name of the Win-7 machine we're talking about; Jim is the user/admin.

Double-clicking on the Computer (1) icon gives an error "\\AA is not accessible. You may not have permission etc... The specified network provider name is invalid".

Neither of the other two XP machines on the network are present in Win-7's Network.

These other two machines can, however, access shared folders on the Win-7 machine, but not the other way round !!

The workgroup name, WORKGROUP, and is recognised but cannot be accessed from the Win-7 machine.

Any Security or Firewall Software installed from all of your computers? Disable them for now if you do.

Can you ping the Win7 computer? From the XP computer Open a command prompt and type ping IP Address of the win7 computer, for ex. ping 192.168.1.10 then press enter. Of course, yours will be different.

All irrelevant now I'm afraid. I installed an Easeus image taken last month which took care of the ethernet network problem, but trying the wireless setup again gives the same result: Windows can't find the wireless modem/router. :(

Possibly the driver isn't compatible with Windows-7 64-bit? It's fine in XP.
