Cannot Connect Windows XP PC To My Windows 7

Hi all,

I recently installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using BootCamp and everything is running fine. I am now however trying to connect my computer to a Windows XP PC next door and it is not working. The printer that I need to use is connected to the Windows XP computer.

I have disabled Windows Firewall and am currently not running any anti-virus. I have ensured that both computers are in the same workgroup and on the same subnet mask, and everything is in order there.

I have also tried to ping the IP address of the other PC and everything comes back to me fine, ping succesfull and no data lost.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why I cannot pick up the system. All sharing options are on so there's no problem there. I am stumped. I am running Windows 7 x64 SP1.

Oh, and I cannot upgrade the other system because it is a work environment and the PC with XP on it is not mine Just before someone suggests that extremely expensive solution.

I had a similar problem, and I think what I did was set the

restrictanonymous

key in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

to 0.

I also made sure that the two computers used the same workgroup, and logged in using the same user name and password in both.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that method also didn't work. As for the same workgroup, that is confirmed, but unfortunately as I sadi, it is an office environment and the printer PC is not mine, so definitely cannot ensure both user names and passwords are the same.

Any other ideas anybody?

I ran across this issue within my home network and had to edit the hosts file to get the XP machine to "see" the server.....not sure this is the answer but it might be worth checking out.

I used to have a similar problem where my Windows 7 laptop couldn't connect to the XP computers in my network by name, but other Windows 7 laptops in the same network could. I eventually changed my Node Type from "Peer-Peer" to "Hybrid" and that actually fixed it for me.
