Windows 7: Connecting to Wireless Network on Domain

Hello all,

I'm testing out Windows 7 Professional on the network we use at a school district. All the other machines have Windows XP and work fine, but 7 isn't working right now.

When the XP machines join the domain, they have the wireless information sent to them and they automatically connect to the wireless network. On the Windows 7 laptop we're using (Lenovo R500), it's on the domain and can get internet if it's plugged in via ethernet, but it does not see and can't connect to the network wirelessly. If I try to manually connect to it (Using WPA-Enterprise encryption with TKIP) it still won't connect to the network.

I tried running group policy update on them, but there's still no luck. The driver is working becuase we can see wireless networks from homes neighboring the school, and our access point is working because the XP machine right next to them picks up the signal just fine.

Does anyone have any ideas? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Looking at your post, I would like to get the simple questions answered first. It seems it is the laptop that has the problem. You say you tried to "manually connect"? you would need to create the "new wireless connection? Then use "Manage wireless networks" to edit settings?





You also said there are other wireless networks detected? Does the laptop detect these networks but not the school's network?



Workgroup settings, not HomeGroup? What does the troubleshooter tell you? What IP address is DHCP assigning?



Sorry if you have already checked all this out. Post back with more details and lets see what we can find?

For me, when I'm trying to connect to a wireless network, it doesn't show Manage Wireless Networks; it only shows the other two. It's really annoying really, cause I have to connect using the cable that's connected to the router. Please HELP!!!! It's really annoying. Thank you very much OH yeah, and I accidently registered on my XP computer; I actually have windows 7. And also, this problem didn't occur during the time I had Vista. Right now, my laptop cant even find any wireless networks. Eh, also my windows 7 is 32-bit and ultimate; could've gotten 64-bit, but 32-bit is better for gaming.

actually correction, about the 32 bit being better for games. that is strictly based on how much ram you have.
