Well this is just great! I too am in the same boat. I just installed Windows 7 Evaluation Copy on my second hard drive and can not for the life of me get into my other computer which is running windows xp pro. i have a good background with computers and have networked hundreds of computers but to no avail. I can even see the other computer then Network security asks me for the username and password. I have no firewalls on and have followed every post instruction to the t and still no prevail. I can boot into windows xp on the same machine and connects everytime like butter? I am legally blind and dont want to go completely blind spending another 5 hours trying to figure this out. can anyone help please! | My System Specs |

One trick is to use IP addy instead of dhcp/dns. from win 7 can you ping the router and does it connect to the web?

it is going to ask for a username and password whether or not you use an IP address or hostname..
the easiest way to get around it is to "Map a network drive" in "My Computer" using some credentials that already exist on the computer that you are trying to access.
P.S. - If you install Teamviewer on your computers and PM me the login info, I will fix it for you. It's too much trouble trying to explain how to do it. This thread is already 3 pages long and we have like a dozen or more threads on this same topic. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to list. OS XP, Seven, 2008R2 CPU AMD, Intel, VIA Motherboard Various Memory Corsair, Kingston, etc. Graphics Card ATI, NVIDIA Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Keyboard qwerty Hard Drives Maxtor, Western Digital Internet Speed 22 Mb/s @ home, 1 Gb/s @ server Other Info All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality. |

well I can probably get by with the XP machine
but there's not much to fix. All you need is the correct username and password. You don't know it? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to list.
