Windows 07 Cannot See Windows XP Machine

Well this is just great!

I too am in the same boat. I just installed Windows 7 Evaluation Copy on my second hard drive and can not for the life of me get into my other computer which is running windows xp pro. i have a good background with computers and have networked hundreds of computers but to no avail. I can even see the other computer then Network security asks me for the username and password. I have no firewalls on and have followed every post instruction to the t and still no prevail. I can boot into windows xp on the same machine and connects everytime like butter? I am legally blind and dont want to go completely blind spending another 5 hours trying to figure this out. can anyone help please!

One trick is to use IP addy instead of dhcp/dns. from win 7 can you ping the router and does it connect to the web?

it is going to ask for a username and password whether or not you use an IP address or hostname..

the easiest way to get around it is to "Map a network drive" in "My Computer" using some credentials that already exist on the computer that you are trying to access.

P.S. - If you install Teamviewer on your computers and PM me the login info, I will fix it for you. It's too much trouble trying to explain how to do it. This thread is already 3 pages long and we have like a dozen or more threads on this same topic.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.

well I can probably get by with the XP machine

but there's not much to fix. All you need is the correct username and password. You don't know it?
