    Denied permission to open file

I just got this computer. I have some files I can't open because it says I don't have permission. Example, one is a file with music that was copied from old computer. I have read about sharing but don't understand it. Can someone explain in simple terms how I can make all files so I cam open them?

You are to take ownership of those files .

Try Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums . Method one (Take Ownership Shortcut) makes it very easy, but if you opt for the method one, use it cautiously .

       Warning
Dont try to take ownership of the windows folder. It may turn your system in risk .

    A very good article indeed.
Few more can enhance the quality.
I think the article by Russel Sc can help you to understand file permission system of windows 7 where he describes the process step by step.

Now for the brute force approach:
Format a usb stick as FAT32.
Copy the files to the usb stick.
Copy the files from the usb stick to the desired end location.

Fat32 doesn't use the ntfs permissions.
