I did everything you ask, still can't get on internet. When ping google and 74.125.227.148 still get 100% loss. I have noticed in lower right of browser where the progression bar is, some time when trying to connect, the bar goes about 1/2 way then stops. Other times it doesn't go at all.

Form another computer on the same network, copy and paste this at a command prompt and press enter ipconfig /all>c:\ipconfig.txt&notepad c:\ipconfig.txt&exit

When notepad opens, copy & paste the info into your next post or attach the text file located in C:\

See if you can find the model # of both your router and modem.

Is this cable or DSL?

Ok, I was trying to make it easy in you . At the command prompt of a working PC on the same network, type ipconfig /all and hit enter. Right click and Select All, then right click on the command prompt title bar and go to Edit, copy. Paste that info here and I'll go check on your router and modem.

In the meantime, start Malwarebytes on the problem computer and check the box to run a Full Scan and let it complete. If you see anything detected other than that 1 rogue link, attach the new log.

After you do that and if you can get the XP computer close enough to the modem via a network cable, do the following: unplug the power cable to the modem, plug an ethernet cable from your XP computer directly into the ethernet port of the modem.

Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /renew hit enter
type ping google.com hit enter

You can cancel or pause the malwarebytes scan and do the above if needed.

GUESS WHAT?
I came and put the wireless adapter on the XP and it works. I am using it to post this reply. Wonder why it hasn't worked wired? Doesn't really make any difference unless it won't pick up wireless from my shop. Not far at all but signal will have to go through metal on shop and aluminum where the router is. When I reset the router other day when this first started it has no password. What would be easiest way, without messing up again, for me to set password in so no one else can get on. Just now when I clicked connect it warned me this was a non protected netword

I think the problem is from you resetting your router. You may have both your router and your modem acting as a DHCP server, when only one is allowed to have that role. If you can connect the XP box directly to your modem with a network cable, it would make sense.

Why don't you finish up with the IPconfig from another computer and that might tell me what I need to know. After that, I can have you change your Netgear into a wireless access point instead of a router (if that's the case) and set it up with a password. this way everything will be wired correctly.

Open a web browser on the computer you're using now and type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. Let me know if you get a popup to enter a password for the Netgear router or for the DSL modem.
