    0 download speeds

I have been using BitTorrent for several months. Suddenly, the download and upload speeds have decreased to 0. I am not using a router. I have a printer connected. Using Win 7, 64 bit, 4GB RAM, 640GB HD.
I believe that Norton Internet Security may be at fault, but attempts at port forwarding with this software have failed to solve the problem.
I am considering disabling NIS and "downgrading" to Windows Firewall, with the accompanying security risks.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am a computer novice and have difficulty with much of the teckspeak.
    Thanx in advance.

Norton is known to have these problems on some systems

I do notice Symantec which is a frequent cause of BSOD's. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

BitTorrent website said installation would not solve the problem.

I am checking with Norton to ensure the remove/reinstall is practical.
Norton removal seems to be the only solution at this stage-3 months and several dozen emails from 4 different websites.

    backup

I am backing up my hard drive for the first time.

The target drive is Lacie Rugged XL 1TB, using EaseUS Todo Backup freeware listed on CNET website.

Can I perform other operations while backup is in progress? This will take a very long (unknown) time. There is a minimize button which suggests that the software does not require complete control of my computer.

As I am new at this, and suggestions would be appreciated.
