    Connect to Mac via Ethernet?

Is there a way to connect a PC running W7 to a Mac running Snow Leopard (10.6.2) via an Ethernet cable?

I wasn't able to make it work under Vista, but I was hoping W7 would have some changes under the hood to make it possible. (I have the Workgroup set up and the computers connected but when I try to connect from either direction I just get the message that the username/password combo is wrong.) Thanks

P.S. I'm using 64-bit Home Premium on an hp dv3t and a Mac Pro desktop if it makes any difference.

    Hi and welcome

Are you going thru a route? or is it a straight connect? If straight you need a "crossover cable" which is different than the norm. As to uid and password what user name is on both machines? You have to be user\pc\username, and user\mac\username.

Try doing it in the clear without passwords

    Hi

It's a straight connect but I was trying it with a regular Ethernet cable.

Is there a way to do it through my Airport (to obviate the need for buying a new cable)? (The PC is on the network wirelessly, while the Mac Pro is wired into the Airport [don't have a wireless card in that one]).

Also I'm not sure how to enter my info without a password, since it asks for it automatically (when trying to connect from either the PC or Mac), but maybe that would change if I set things up either through the Airport or with a crossover cable.

    Thanks
