    Limited Access For Laptop/Xbox 360

I keep having this problem with my laptop and also this is an issue with my xbox 360. Every couple hours at random I get disconnected from both xbox live and my laptop. The laptop ALWAYS is then listed as limited access and the only way I can get Internet back to my laptop and xbox is press the reset button on the back of the modem then it reboots and is fine for a few hours until it does it again. Also I have high speed Internet and it is SLOW SLOW SLOW! I don't know how to fix this but it just sucks. Also my xbox 360 is always set up as "strict" for online play and I always have terrible connection in games. I tried opening all the ports and messing with the settings and i can get the xbox to open but that doesn't solve the problem with the Limited access that happens every couple hours and I have to reset everything anyways... This is really irritating i have had this problem for the last year!

    Hi tim91,

Is this issue wired or wireless or both?

    What's your internet speed?

How many wireless/wired devices (Smartphones, computers) do you have in your home network connected to the router?

Im only having the problem with the wireless connections. The pc is wired to the modem and the laptop and xbox connect with the wi-fi. The main desktop always has connection. I also noticed that the xbox and the laptop lose connection at the same exact time when both on but it still does it when only the laptop is running or only the xbox is running. I exhausted pretty much every option for the modem settings and ports and it would work for like an hour or two having the nat type on open and then i would get randomly disconnected and or reset, would eventually go back to strict.

I just put in a new modem that i got today from the provider its a little bit newer. I hooked it up in a couple minutes and haven't had a problem at all yet tonight and also while playing xbox the NAT is open and set on Moderate instead of strict which is ok i guess i havent messed with it yet. I think the new modem fixed the problem actually. Perhaps I had a faulty modem because this has been a problem since we got it in 2009.

Here is the test from my service provider.

Upload Speed: 531 kbps (66.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
