    Best Setup to use Computer Remotely (distributed computing)


    HI;

    I've maxed out my machines RAM and I'm running out of ram at times and hitting hard drive I/O bottle necks. I'm running a setup with 3 monitors on a 2.7Ghz i7 with 16GB of RAM.

    I'm thinking I could setup another computer, connect to it over the network and have something setup so that much of the time one of my monitors is a remote connection to that computer. Basically giving me the power of another full computer at my same workstation without having to have another physical computer / keyboard / mouse here.

    I'm going to test the setup with Team Viewer and see how that works to operate a second computer on my network.

    Update on what I have tried:

    I installed Team Viewer on my main computer and on my laptop and connected my desktop to my laptop.

    They were both on wireless, but are both 802.11n. I was able to operate my laptop fairly well remotely, but there was some lag, wasn't major, but might be more of a problem with some applications. I do wonder if this lag would go away if both computers were physically networked together.

    I was not able to get Team Viewer to expand to the full screen, so it didn't quite work as I hoped. It would only expand to a window that took up about 90% of my screen space on my 19" monitor. I'm going to look at Team Viewer again and see if there is some setting I missed that would allow me to switch it to full screen. (I'm looking for it to do full screen like the way Putty does; if you put it into full screen, it just takes over the whole monitor like your on that computer)

    If I don't figure out anything with Team Viewer, I'm going to look for some other remote desktop type of software and see if I can find anything that will expand to full screen on one of my monitors.

    If anyone has used any Remote Desktop software with Windows on a LAN that went full screen and worked well, please let me know.

    I have regular OEM Windows 7 that came on my Dell, so I don't think it has the build in windows desktop sharing.
