How far are you from the router? Are you getting a good signal? Any other cordless/wireless devices on that PC? Is your Windows 7 install media an original official unmodified Microsoft DVD? inSSIDer is a nice little free app that will show you signal strength, Wireless channel etc, of your network and any other networks in range that may be interfering. In addition to what Alpha said, Did you try any other wireless adapters after this fresh install? Did you install anything else before you installed the wireless adapter? Are you absolutely sure you got the correct and most recent drivers from the right website? Is your Win 7 DVD a legit, unscratched copy from Microsoft or a partner of Microsoft? As Alpha said, are you in range of the router? Does the wired LAN port work?

Did the install complete without hitch? Did you change any settings before the wireless adapter was installed? Could you try to clean install windows through here and see if it works this time?

I can with the largest grin on my face say this issue has been solved. Not sure if this was suggested over the course of this discussion, regardless i want to thank the support and suggestions given to me.

Turns out the issue lay with my motherboard, the bios had been updated (a whopping 6 more times) from F1-F7, along the way they fixed several issues with USB controllers and LAN controls. Thankfully as soon as the bios where updated the dongle installed the drivers and within seconds was connected to the network running a whopping 31mb/s

Sooo stressed the past week or so trying to fix this and to see it resolved is heavenly to say the least! Thanks again for the support, take a note and remember to ensure people are up to date on their hardware's latest firmware
