Sharing Permissions on LAN - I can see one Desktop but not the other

All Machines running windows 7 pro or Ultimate

All three computers have an "Administrator" account with a username called Mom&Dad

Computer 1 just has "Mom&Dad" as the sole Administrator account.

The other 2 computers then have an additional account that is being used (ie: "ChildsName-1" and "ChildsName-2")

All computers have passwords associated with all user accounts.

All computers have 2 partitions: C: and D: drive.

I have set the 2 Child computers to share C: and D: drives with the "Mom&Dad" username (with full permissions) which is on each of their computers as a user.

I can access through the network both C: and D: drive on both computers with one exception.

On ChildName-1 computer I can access their desktop \\ChildName-1\c\Users\ChildName-1\Desktop without any trouble.

On ChildName-2 computer I can't get past \\ChildName-2\c\Users\ChildName-2
without getting the "Windows cannot access \\ChildName-2\c\Users\ChildName-2 Network Error message.
In other words I can't access their desktop, but everything else works perfectly.

I have the permissions set up the same on both. They are both running the same firewall with the same settings.

I am not sure what it is I am doing wrong.

Any Idea?

I have "Everyone" with full control selected.

I have even specifically added "Administrators" as a group with full permissions and "Mom&Dad" as a specific user with full permissions.

In addition, I have added the same info to the Securities tab as that also affects Networking accessability -- I understand that windows 7 will take the most restrictive of the 2 which is why I added it to both.

Further more, what I don't understand is why it is I can access pretty much every other file and folder, but not the one that will allow me to access files on the desktop.

Now, there is a little "Lock" icon on that folder. I am not sure what that is. Could that some how be causing the issue?

What does that mean anyhow?

What account did you use as I asked you to do. You might have to do it for all accounts.

Sorry Roderunner, I am not sure I caught the account request.

I was trying to allow the "Mom&Dad" accounts (which are on all 3 computers - and have the same password) to access ALL of the ChildName-1 and ChildName-2 computers files.

What has me confused is that I have allowed the access to :c and :d drive partitions and I do have full control (read write modify, etc) on everything except on the folders that allow me access to their Desktop.

Where I get stopped (via the network) is here:
\\ChildName-1\c\Users\ChildName-1

while on my way to here:
\\ChildName-1\c\Users\ChildName-1\Desktop

I have even gone directly to:
\\ChildName-1\c\Users\ChildName-1
and changed the share permissions on that folder directly (even though they should have been inherited.

That is what has me confused. Hopefully that makes sense.

Can you clarify one thing for me please; Can you not just give the permission to "Mom&Dad" without having to enter in the "Everyone" entry? Why does the "Everyone" have to be there?

It seems counter intuitive to me to have to put that in.

My 2 computers have the same username & password. Their is only one user (me). My only sharing folder is on my desktop pc. When it was made, when I reached the sharing section for permission, all I had to do was give it full permission, which showed as 'Everyone', why it never gave my name is a mystery. If you do as in my pdf from 'My method of file sharing', see my image.

I am on the road right at the moment and will check them when I get back.

I was hoping to access the actual "Desktop" rather than just a folder on it that is shared. Either way I'll look when I get back.

Security Question: What does "Everyone" mean exactly . . . if you still have to enter in a Username and Password to access the machine shouldn't you just be able to enter the User as the one you could give the permissions to?

I just want to under stand what entering "Everyone" is really doing there. It seems kind of ominous. No?

Ok, I am back.
Here is what I did:

I Removed "Everyone" from both the Sharing Settings and the Security settings tabs.
Then I made sure I removed it from the "Users" folder specifically and the directory leading to the desktop (Because I was messing around with that too).
Then I completely unshared c drive.
Then I tried adding c drive as a share and gave "Everyone" full access as per Roderunners suggestion. And it worked. I am not sure what was happening before.
Then, because giving "Everyone" permission seems like a bad idea I removed everyone and unshared the drive again.
Then I re-shared the c drive, but this time instead of giving "Everyone" full permission, I just gave "Mom&Dad" full permission as I had intended to begin with -- It is working perfectly.

I don't know why exactly it was giving me grief before but there it is.

Again, I ask the question, what are the security implications of choosing "Everyone" when sharing a drive or folder verses just giving a User who is already apart of that particular machines "Users" access through the LAN . . . especially if you still have to "Login" with your credentials?

Welcome back, glad you got it to work. I think! everyone is included in case you allow or add friends to your permitted list that can access your home network. My network is only accessible by my Laptop, and is so secure.
