Please define "slow" in approx seconds or minutes.

Check the Event Viewer in Control Panel and run startup repair. Startup Repair

Does your Sony have the VaioCare Package ? It contains some troubleshooting software to check your complete system.

    Let us know the results.

Slow is about 1 minute from log in to interet compared to my gateway that is about 20 seconds. The sony was about the same until I replaced the hdd. The only thing I can think of is when I reinstalled windows 7 from the rcovery disc I shut the lid during installation & it locked the computer so the only thing I could do was start the istallation again with the recovery discs. I wonder if windows was some how installed twice & is loading twice at startup? Yes I have vaio care & I ran one click care & system tune up with everything checking out fine. The starup repair looks to be a little complicated & after the last few days spent with computer issues I really dont have it in me to try it right now. But thanks for the info.

In the start menu internet explorer is listed twice once as internet explorer (64 bit) & once again as internet explorer. Normal?

Have you checked your disk partitions (disk management) ?

Click on the tutorials section at the top of this page for troubleshooting info. Besides startup repair, run SFC/scannow from the cmd prompt. Again, check the event viewer for any possible info and run a virus scan.

Did this computer come with Windows 7, then you made a recovery disk, and replaced the hard drive ?
