Windows 7 - cannot share files over 2 comps

i have a laptop(win 7) and desktop (xp) connected through a router.

i have previously connected the both to transver files but it is not working.

i am guessing because Network Discovery is refuseing to stay on!

i have gone though countless forums, all relevent serveices are on and automatic. have reset netsh, which one forum suggested (netsh winsock reset catlog).

win 7 can ping xp comp but not visa versa.

Hi, yes thats basicly how i do it with a few extras. also i never normally change from 128 bit encryption and it normally works fine.

but i am not getting the other comp show up for instacne desktop cant see laptop and laptop cant see desktop, very frustrating.

i done it a few moths ago with these exact computers so i dont know why it is now not working.

file discovery will not stay on!

Do you mean Network Discovery? Check your Firewall settings, here's mine.



128 bit Encryption is not really needed, its only you accessing your own system.
What OS is on your pc's ???
