HP laptop not able to connect to internet

I recently bought a HP Envy 14-2050ED laptop
It connects to my modem/router but does not make a connection to the internet.

all the other devices in the house (other PC, iMac and iPad) are working fine.
My laptop can connect to the wireless network of our neighbours (which is not secured) but not to our own network.

Anybody here any ideas what might solve this problem?

I dont get any error messages at all

When I look in my Network centre I see a connection to my modem/router but then after that there is a red cross showing on the line between the modem/router and the Internet globe.
When I click the red cross to solve the problem it starts reparing but then after a while the red cross appears again and I get the message that I cannot connect to the internet.

I have another PC and that one was having problems after we reset the modem, but is now working fine again and connecting to the network
The iMac and iPad are doing so as well

It is just this new laptop that refuses to connect.
