However, there is no option to disconnect from the network. This is extremely frustrating; apparently I'm blind, but I've tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter to no avail.

Windows 7 x32, btw. (desktop, in my profile)

Have you tried clicking the networking icon and disconnecting the xnetwork from there. There is also a connect auto matically box that you can uncheck

You can also click the notification icon then right click the network in question & select properties then the 'Connection' tab then de-select 'Connect automatically when this network is in range'.

Windows 7 x32 for Desktop | Windows 7 x64 for laptop

See, I have no link/option to click the network. Well, I can click it, but it's just black text that does nothing when I click on it. Thoughts?

disable secondary gateway

See if you have more than one Default Gateways (fastest is by command "ipconfig /all") and delete the ones you don't need to get rid of unneeded networks.
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Change adapter settings\[Adapter]\Properties\Internet Protocol Version 4\Properties\Advanced...\Default gateways\[check one you don't need]>Remove
