Why wont my lynksys password work

ok I finally set a password i think. I went into my router web page. went to wireless security. set up a wep passphrase and generated a key... first, is this my password when i try to connect wirelessly or not. I have tried it with every combination of username i can think of like the passphrase, the network name, admin and others but it will not let me connect. any ideas pleas help

My Linksys (Cisco) refers to it as a "Passphrase" and it is the code you enter on a computer trying to connect wirelessly. Make sure they are both using the same sort of encryption.

You're not confusing this with the router settings Password are you? That's completely different and only lets you get into the router settings, not wireless connectivity. Unless you've allowed it to be changed over a wireless connection (risky!) you'll need to connect a cable to mess with that. :)

no i am set up through ethernet but i try to connect wirelessly because this isnt where my comp. will be. I can still get into my router webpage and disable the wep security and connect wirelessly no problem its not until i set up the WEP that it locks me out. I never set up a password before but i think neighbors are stealing my internet so i went throught the process for a password just cant get it to work when i try to connect

Does it look like this, and are you entering the Passphrase exactly? It is case sensitive.

(I erased mine - it goes in the blank box )

Delete the old connection and make a new one with the new settings.

Have you run the Network Troubleshooting Wizard?
