Windows 7 shares work for a few days, then become inaccessable Hello, I have a windows 7 computer that we are using as our file and print server.
The problem is that after 2-3 days, you suddenly can't print or access the shares on the computer.
It's windows 7 pro, 64 bit. Any ideas what may be going on here?
-Thanks

The IP could be changing Via the Router. If this Does happen any connections get lost as its not pointing to the Correct IP.
Idea, Goto the router and add the IP for that PC (DHCP Reservation Lease Info) and or extend the lease to the IP's. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Build. Actually, the mock server is using a static ip and we access the shares and printers by it's ip and not by the computer name (Though after a few days, you can't get to it by either one). What's strange about it is that some of the computers have errors and some work fine, then half an hour later, those that had issues can now access it and those that were fine can not. | My System Specs

Hi,
Have you tried turning the computer's Network Discovery option Off and On again? You should find this under Homegroup options.
Another possibility is that the network settings of the computer trying to access stuff from the Win 7 computer has changed. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell / Custom OS Windows 7 HP / Ultimate x64 CPU Core i5 / X4 955 BE Motherboard OEM / Gigabyte 880GM-USB3 Memory 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz / 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz Graphics Card HD5470 / HD5670 Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays FullHD 15" / Dell 22" WS Screen Resolution 1920x1080 / 1680x1050 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Logitech PSU CM Case CM Cooling CM, Antec Hard Drives 320GB / 1.5TB |

Yes. This smells like the "Large System Cache" problem. It occurs when you transfer very large amounts of data to the "server", such as daily image backups from other machines. You will need to make the "server" behave more like a Server by adjusting these two registry settings: Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"LargeSystemCache"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters]
"Size"=dword:00000003 | My System Specs | | OS W7 Pro, W7 Ult, Vista Ult, Vista Bus, XP Pro |

OK, I have tried the registry edits and have not had any issues in the past hour, however, we usually don't have issues till 2-3 days. So I will post back monday or tuesday to update everyone.
Thanks for all the help so far | My System Specs

Exactly. The problem takes a while to crop up, depending on how much data you're sending it. 2-3 days is fairly typical. | My System Specs | | OS W7 Pro, W7 Ult, Vista Ult, Vista Bus, XP Pro |

It just occurred to me that I failed to tell you to reboot after making those registry changes. If you don't, the values aren't implemented so nothing will change. | My System Specs | | OS W7 Pro, W7 Ult, Vista Ult, Vista Bus, XP Pro |

Well, it's been over a week and it's working great now. This should be how it works by default.
I will post back if the problem crops up again.
