Computer not automatically connecting to home wifi.

    Hi,
I am having trouble getting an HP laptop to automatically connect to our home wifi. It won't connect either on start up nor after it has woken from sleep mode. Both times it has to be manually connected.
I have checked the 'automatically connect' in the wireless networks properties box but it seems to uncheck itself after it shuts down.
This is the 2nd router that it won't connect to whereas all the other wireless computers etc we have have no problem connecting to the router
If someone would be kind enough to suggest a fix I would be much appreciative.
    Thanks.

You said that you "manually connect it". What do you do?

    Welcome to SF.

You didn't put up your specs. What is the model of your notebook. I suggest you check to see if you have the latest network driver installed.

It's a an HP Pavilion dv6 running windows 7. When I connect manually, I mean I have to click on the wifi bar icon in the lower right. When the window opens I identify our home network then click on 'connect'. It connects straight away. It just doesn't reconnect automatically after the computer starts up again

There should be a means to automatically connect to your chosen network in your router or modem settings so that it can be saved. The one in Win7 will allow you to tick the box to automatically connect but, as you have found out, it does not keep this setting after sleep or re-boot. Another setting I use is the "always on" connection (or idle timeout set to 0 ) so that it will reconnect immediately without manual intervention. Hope this helps.

I know this an old thread... but under the WiFi adapter properties/configure/power there's a box to uncheck which allows the computer to shut down the card.

Make sure you have the network card drivers, download to USB stick and install on computer.
