No redirect for web authentication on some networks, windows 7 64 bit

    Dear experts,

I am having trouble obtaining internet access on some wireless networks that require web authentication via an initial redirect. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.

This issue is particularly frustrating because:
    1) This computer can successfully get internet on multiple other wireless networks (including some that do have web authentication via a redirect).
    2) Other computers/phones/etc. can successfully connect to these networks to which I cannot.
    3) I can connect to these networks AND see/browse local machines, just not get internet access.
    4) I found a solution to this problem in the depths of the internet a few months ago, but was too stupid to bookmark it and now can't find it again.

When I connect to these networks, I am assigned a valid IP address. The "limited connectivity" icon appears in the status bar but "additional logon information required" does not show up (as would be expected and as what happens on this same machine with other networks). When I open any browser, it gives an error about not being able to resolve the server's DNS. It does not redirect to the appropriate logon page as what happens when connecting to the network on other devices.

I figure it is some cache that needs clearing, and I vaguely recall the solution involving a setting in Internet Explorer (I normally use Chrome).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Disable IPv6

A bit of tinkering showed me that disabling IPv6 by going to properties of the wireless adapter in "Network Connections" did the trick.
