    Remote Desktop Question

I normally have my 3 Win 7 Pro 64 bit machines set for Windows Automatic Updates each day at 3 a.m. Sometimes after an update the machine automatically restarts and a password is required.

When I am out of town and i want to log in remotely through Remote Desktop and an automatic update with restart occurs the machine is unavailable because it is waiting for the password to be entered. When I go out of town I have been changing the Windows Update on the 3 machines from Automatic to "Download and let me decided which updates to install". This makes the machines always available.

Is there a way go work around this issue?

    Thanks very much for help!

Are you using the standard Windows remote desktop interface? As long as the computer is on and connected to the 'net, it would be available. It sounds like you are using something like logmein. Is that correct?

I am using the standard remote desktop that comes with Windows. I haven't actually had troubles I just thought be ause the login password was required I wouldn't be able to access the machine. Please explain even though the machine is on the network how I can still login. Thanks

    If you have:
... an "always on" internet connection
...... that does not require you to start a program
...... or sign in to connect to the net
... and as long as the home (host) computer is turned on
... and always connected to your home network
Then you should always be able to RDP/RDC to the computer at your home even if no user is logged on. The RDC app takes care of logging you in to the home computer or you are asked for your credentials - depending on how things are setup.

The statements above assumes some things about various methods of finding your home network via the internet. I hope that you are using a strong password since there are apps hammering away at internet facing IPs that respond to the RDP, VNC, and other remote control ports.

Thanks for the good info. I will manually reboot tonight to where the password field appears then try to Remote Desktop access from a remote location away from my house.
