    NRT,

It is very slow. you will get 0.537Mbps, half of what I get. Movies just barely load faster than they play for me, and any slower and you would have to load videos before you are able to watch them, and everything as a whole would be slower. Some locations only offer slow speeds such as this. Hope this answers your question

550 kbps is only about 70 kBps. So a gigabyte would download in... ~30 hours

It indeed is very slow, and about videos.. as DustSailor said you wont be able to watch them, at least not in good quality.

Apparently, I cannot do math. It is a lot less than half of what I get. Think it is about one tenth of what I get. Which means video quality, as vitas75 said, will be as low as possible

Writing kbps sometimes causes problems. Better to write as Kilobytes/s or Kilobits/s. 550 Kilobits/s is rather an odd speed. Usually speeds are in the power (^) of 2 and therefore 512 is more likely.

If your speed is around 512 Kilobits/s then it translates to 512/8=64 Kilobytes/s. Not enough for watching streaming videos smoothly but OK for streaming music. If however it is 550 Kilobytes/s then it translates to about 550*8=4 megabits/s and is more that enough to watch streaming videos.

Streaming videos can be nicely watched from 2 megabits/s upwards.
