Windows 7 slowing down my network?
I had posted about a problem with my Xbox Live lagging after some Windows 7 installs. I've reformatted both PC's, and it seems to be fixed. Something still seems off when I play online. I'm almost sure things are fixed. I think the problem before was that I had to use a "cracked" version of Vista install, then upgrade to Windows 7 since I never had Vista and I couldnt burn a disc properly for Windows 7. Anyway, I determined that the installs had something fishy about them, whether it be a virus or something else things were just not right with the system. I asked my father in law for a copy of the disc, he mailed me one and I installed it. Everything went back to normal now.
I read that IPv6 can be hell on a network when enabled on PCs. Mine is and has been disabled from the beginning.
Would buying a new router help any lag in the network since ive got an older model? (wrt54g ver 6). I've updated the firmware though. I'm coming straight from XP to Windows 7, i couldnt stand Vista. I just ordered a new laptop and I'm afraid to upgrade to 7 RC out of fear that it could slow my network more.
Prior to Windows 7 installs ive never had any problems with my network, I've got 30mbps down speed, and a 5 port switch for extra stuff.
3 wired PCs
2 Xbox 360's
Thanks! Sorry its so long, I'm just baffled.
