You need to enter user name & password of the pc your attempting to connect to, as in my pdf.

Maybe this guide will help. It has step by step with pictures of sharing between Vista and Windows 7 machines.

I followed that guide b/4 coming here, it was recommended by the other forum I am in, they sent me here. Also when my son was here helping me the same thing happened as did last night, after putting in all the settings, we saw both pc's on the win7 & vista for a few mins then poof it went back to neither pc seeing each other, just like last night as I posted above. My son is a pc expert took training for this in college, he tried for 4 hrs with no luck. We both have checked, double checked & triple checked the settings. I did find after leaving the Homegroup that the printer settings were gone on the win7 so in checking that setting became unticked , maybe because I left the Homegroup, not sure so I ticked it again and it's back.

Anyone know what's going on? I'm at a loss, I need to go out for a while but will check the settings once again when I return.

If your son is an expert then you should be having no problems with this at all.
Unless of course there is an A/V program involved in the mix in which case all bets are off. :)

Can you give me an example of what you mean? My son doesn't live here or even in this city and I am no expert.

It just means that if you are running any type of A/V software, especially ones with built in firewalls you would either need to configure the firewall to allow for sharing or better yet, uninstall the A/V's completely from both machines and retest to see if sharing works.

It sounds like you have some type of program that is killing off sharing minutes after you set it up, going by the way the machines disappear from the network as you mentioned before.

I have found the problem, when looking into the laptop I noticed I still had Mcfee suite, even tho I am not using Mcfee now so I uninstalled it and now I see both pc's on both systems. I have both set with a password and was able to get into the laptop files on my win7 but I don't have a password on the win 7 so can't get into the win 7 files on the laptop, also how do I make it so I can see the printer which is hooked up to the win7 in the laptop? Sorry but as I said I'm no expert
