Homegroup problem

I'm having an issue with Windows 7 Homegroup. I have 2 systems, one a desktop wired and a notebook connected wirelessly. The existing router is a Netgear N600. Yesterday, I was attempting to download a 2gb file from my desktop to my notebook and it hung for a minute or so before starting the download, which was going at a rate of about 10 kb / sec. Now, I am no longer able to access any of the drives from my desktop (I was previously able to do so) and when I change the Homegroup sharing settings, none of the boxes I check off are being saved. Anyone know what could have caused this?

Have you tried to leave the Home group on both machines then create a new one?

If it won't let you leave the Home group there are ways to fix that problem.

Yea, I tried doing that several times to no avail. The 2 systems 'see' each other but I cannot access any files or drives on the desktop.

Try going through the Home group walk through in the link.
Ultimate Troubleshooting Guide for Windows 7 HomeGroup Connection Issues

If everything is set up correctly and it's still not working look for the following file and delete it.

You can also try deleting the file below on both machines to fix this problem which might help you to join the Home group.
The fix seems to be Deleting the file idstore.sst under C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

Make sure the time/date settings are in sync "the same" on both machines and that you have obtained all important Windows updates. You might also need to uninstall your A/V software or third party firewall if using any on both machines for the time being.
