Network Icon changed to Signals, from blue globe

    Hi,
Last night I installed vmware played on my dell laptop with windows 7 home basic edition (64 bit). Then i uninstalled it. Today morning I was not able do browsing using IE, Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. My messangers were working fine. Then I restored my windows to a previous restore point (10 days old). After that everything started working fine but the blue globe icon in the system tray which is displayed if we are connected to internet. This blue globe icon is gone and i see the signals icon now. Can anyone guide me how can i bring back the blue globe icon back and what is the reason of this automatic change there is no any windows update installed.

can you post a snip of the blue globe icon? i mean the icon that is currently displayed in your system tray.

and do a SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker .

Please see icon.png file which is highlighting the icon i can see currently. Also see globe.png where in the task bar you can see the icon just beside speaker icon which shows to computers with a bluge globe at the center of them. This blue globe was initial icon which is now replace by the "single" shaped icon mentioned in icon.png file.
Why you are suggesting to do a system file system scan? Any way i am doing it right now

Are you sure that you had the blue icon ? I have never seen it before, coz it is not there in the system file, pnidui.dll .

The network icon that you may have is either that one you are having currently, or that one in the pic below

Have you previously applied any theme / transformation pack ?

I believe Arc is correct, this was not an option in Windows 7? It can be accomplished with a 3rd party program Network Activity Indicator A Guy

As I have never used vista (only for a couple of weeks or so). I failed to understand it primarily that the network notification icon you are wanting is of Windows Vista ! The second screenshot is not of windows 7 . Notification minimizer, volume icon, etc all are different, Aero peek button is not present there. So it is Vista, and here goes the proof ! (The screenshot is a random one, clooected from net) .

So, I guess, you did not have this network icon previously , in your windows 7 computer.
