Had this problem before about 4 months ago. now its back. dont remember what had to do to make this most annoying problem stop.
after my pc is on for about an hour,,,,,,,,,,,,, the internet connection fails.
no network acess.
run the troubleshooter and it resets the local area connector, sometimes.
then the internet will work again, but at 10% normal speed.
i have frontier dsl, it is connected through an ethernet cable.
Have you checked the Dell support website for your Inspiron to see if there are updated NIC drivers?
If you just need to reset TCP/IP and everything else you can run this .bat file.
After this if you can post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all it might be help to diagnose the problem.
Flush the DNS cache and restore MS's Hosts file ...
Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator.
Your computer will reboot itself.

This batch file adds 127.0.0.1 to the hosts file, releases and renews your IP address, flushes the DNS cache, resets TCP/IP to its original state, then reboots your computer. It's basically doing all the troubleshooting steps normally used to fix internet/LAN problems related to TCP/IP.
You didn't answer my question - have you checked for updated drivers for your NIC card? Also, is your Windows OS running the latest patches and service pack?
yes, i just checked again on the updates. everything there is up to date. do i do this right now or wait until next time (tomorow morn) that the net fails?
In essence:
1. It replaces your hosts file with a new default copy (in case malware or whatever mucked with it).
2. Clears your compter's network connection settings/cache.
3. Deletes the file you were just asked to make.
4. Restarts your computer.
Well, I guess that post was useless. That's what happens when I open a thread, walk away to do something, come back 15 minutes later and post without refreshing first!! :)
I would go ahead and do it now. Then hopefully your loss of connection won't even happen again.
