No Internet Connection After Boot UP or Wake Up

I don't have an internet connection after boot up or after I wake the system up from sleep. This happens just about everytime, the troubleshooter have no problem fixing it every time. There is nothing wrong with the network as I still get a dial tone on the telephone.

    My Set Up

my eithernet chip is on board Realtek 8111D, I found this information from the
    Windows Network Diagnostics

    Issues found
There might be a problem with the driver for the Local Area Connection adapter

Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter.
So when I run the troubleshooter after startup it must be doing it manually

Set up the wired network adapter Not run

Set up the network adapter to communicate with this network. This ensures that both Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) can be used on the network adapter.

    Details about network adapter diagnosis:

Network adapter Local Area Connection driver information:

    Description . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

I hope this information is useful and that none of it can be used to attack my PC

Did you ever solve this issue? I am having the same problem. After reboot, no internet connection until I disable the NIC then enable it. (Sort of like what you're doing with the trouble shooter.) I've updated to all the latest drivers and still it occurs.

could be missing Virtual Wifi MiniPort Adapter

Realtek 8191SE wireless card IP stack binding error on Windows 7 x64 - March 2010

When you run a diagnostic on the wireless adapter you get the following error message:

"Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter"

This can be caused by the fact that Windows has not yet installed and configured the 'Microsoft Virtual WiFi MiniPort Adapter' - a virtual software adapter it needs.

Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre and click on Change Adapter Settings.

Apart from your wired connection, how many icons for wireless connections can you see?

Can you see just one icon (called 'Wireless Network Connection' or similar) for the Realtek wireless card, or can you see two, the second one called 'Wireless Network Connection 2', which is for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter?

If you do not have an entry for the Virtual WiFi MiniPort Adapter you need to
persuade your machine to install and configure this component.

To do that right-click on the icon for the Realtek card and go to Properties.

Untick the entry for 'Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)' and click OK.
(If you are already using TCPv6, don't worry, you can restore it later.)

Wait a minute and you should see a new icon has been created for the MiniPort Adapter.

If this doesn't work try unticking another box - for me it worked just unticking TCPv6, but for example I also have 'Virtual PC Network Filter Driver' and 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS 6 Filter' in my list - you will have to experiment, but don't worry, once Windows realises it needs the MiniPort Adapter and creates it you can then re-instate your settings.

The point of unticking one or more items in your list is to force Windows to reconfigure the settings for the Realtek wireless card - it should then realise it needs the MiniPort Adapter, if this was not previously configured.

OK, so now you should have two wireless icons - one for the card and one for the MiniPort Adaper.

Try running a diagnostic on the card now - right-click on the icon and select 'Diagnose'.

It should be OK now - although interestingly if you run a diagnostic on the MiniPort Adapter that returns the same error message you were previously getting for your card (MS: ??). That really doesn't matter though, because it is only a virtual software device, and just passes signals through.

You should now also be able to see any available wireless networks by clicking on the network icon in the taskbar.

Now the MiniPort Adapter has been created and configured you should be able to re-instate any
items you unticked in your wireless card's Properties list - I suggest you test them one at a time.

Also remember if NOT using DHCP you may need to check your IP settings to get full wireless Internet access. This will require you to set the Default Gateway. If your wireless Default Gateway is the same as your LAN's (usually) you will get a warning message about 'duplicate Default Gateway on network' - just click Yes to get Internet access.

I have seen this error message on many forums and hope this helps.

My sincere thanks to Paul and his colleagues at pcspecialist.co.uk - what a fantastic machine!

Thanks for the reply Alsax but your suggestion does not apply to problem that either I or the OP were having. We both have on-board NICs that do not use WiFi.

However, it appears to be a problem with the Realtek drivers. I had tried several different things including updating the driver every time a new one came out. Nothing worked. Finally, this week Realtek released yet another a new driver (they actually released two this week). I installed it and have not had the problem since.

As a suggestion... maybe you could look up your adaptor in Device Manager and let us know what version of that driver you have... It may be germaine should the problem resurface.

This problem is often caused by security software that appears to block the wireless adapter whose driver had been reinstalled. For me the problem was ZoneAlarm, but others have experienced the same thing in AVG and Kaspersky. (Note that ZoneAlarm used to list the adapters, but doesn't any more which means that this is impossible to inspect and hence fix cleanly.)

I uninstalled ZoneAlarm, saw that Windows could find the wireless networks again (but didn't connect to any). Then I reinstalled ZoneAlarm and connected successfully to a network.

Note that when I reinstalled the driver for my adaptor, the Microsoft Virtual WiFi MiniPort Adapter appeared. I don't think it was there before I uninstalled the driver. Anyhow, I don't think that virtual adapter is relevant to this issue, since I have disabled it and still have my wireless adapter working correctly now.

Dragging this up from the past

I just registered to add a hopefully useful post to this thread, I had an identical problem, and after a few weeks I have cracked it, Ill try and make this search engine friendly to help anyone else!

I have an asrock Ion 330 HT with a realtek wireless adapter that does not automatically connect to a wireless or wifi network.

I tried all sorts of things...

It turns out you have to add a "Profile" in the realtek software.

Click on the little arrow on bottom right of taskbar and you should see the realtek wireless symbol (not windows 7 built in one)

Open this, and add your wireless network as a profile...

    Problem solved

I can only assume this is left over from xp days where you could specify whether to control the wireless network via windows built in software or the manufacturers...

It seems on 7 you can do both! but sometimes it doesnt work...

Hopefully this post will help someone in the future with realtek network wireless cards not connecting or reconnecting automatically on boot up or restart!

(It would make my day if I do help someone and they post in here to say thanks...Im sad like that)
